Roll Groups

Home Group

We have vertical Home Groups which means that there are students from Year 7 to Year 10 in the one class. The rolls are marked and announcements read daily in Home Group.

Home Groups meet every morning for 10 minutes

 Roll marking

SHHS uses the OASIS system of Roll Marking.

Teachers collect Rolls to mark during home group.

The Process:

  • Names on the Roll are called.

  • If the student is NOT present in the room - the details are completed on a slip which is later used to enter details into OASIS.

  • When a student returns after an absence - they should give the teacher a note explaining/excusing their absence.

  • When a student returns after an absence without an explanatory note students are given a reminder slip.

  • Early Leavers Pass. These are given to students who need to leave school early for an unavoidable emergency only. Parents must send a note explaining why and when their child needs to leave school. Students give the note to their Home Group teacher. When it is time to leave, students need to collect their pass from the Roll Office and sign the Early Leaver's Book.

  • Telephone Messages:

In the case of an emergency, telephone messages will be taken from parents and passed on to their child. Some students carry their own mobile phones but these must be switched off during school hours at school. Students are not permitted to make or take calls during school hours (including recess and lunchtime)

  •  Announcements for students are read daily to Home Groups as this is one of the major forms of communication in the school. As Home Groups are vertical (i.e. including students from all Years), it is important that all announcements are read.

  • Students arriving late should have a note from their parents explaining why they are late. On arrival, they must report to the late room to sign in and to receive a late pass that will gain them admittance to class. Persistent lateness will result in students having to make up the missed work after school. Parents will be notified in advance.
