SHHS COMPUTER NETWORK
ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
Students at Seven Hills High agree to the following terms of use
whenever using the schools computer facilities. If any of the conditions
are broken, students may find that their user rights are restricted or
relinquished.
Whenever I use the computer facilities at Seven Hills High, I agree
to:-
Internet :
- Always have a teacher present to supervise while I am on the
Internet or when working on computers.
- Only use the Internet to widen the range of educational material
available for my school work. I will not use the Internet to
stream video or music down during class time unless at the
specific request of a teacher. (eg: The music teacher wants you to
access a certain piece of music over the Internet)
- Use the Internet for legal activities only. I understand
that I am not allowed to copy software, violate copyright or other
contracts nor carry out activities that
will disrupt the operation of the network in any way.
- Only download files onto the computers when they are essential for
an educational assignment. Such downloads are to be saved in my own
folder only. I am not allowed to download programs without the
permission of the School System Administrator. Never use a program,
file, virus etc that may damage the network or disrupt the learning of
others.
- Use computers in an acceptable manner. I will not use the
computers or Internet for harassment, discriminatory remarks, the
distribution of hate mail, or any other antisocial behaviours.
- Use only sites approved by the Dept. of Education. I will not to
use the computer or Internet to access any obscene, violent,
pornographic, racial or illegal material. My teacher reserves the
right to determine the appropriateness of a site.
- Only use email in a right and proper way and in the interests of
school projects. I cannot use the computer or Internet to transmit
material that is likely to be illegal, offensive or objectionable to
the recipient, school or community.
- and understand that I can not use Internet chat rooms at school
unless these are provided by the Department of School Education.
Network:
- Always log on and log off from my workstation correctly.
- Never share my passwords or use another student’s password and
always keep my address and personal details to myself.
- Always respect other students’ work. I will not intentionally
seek information on, obtain copies, modify files or passwords
belonging to other users. I will not plagiarise (copy someone
else's), work from the Internet and use it as my own work.
- Always respect the computer equipment. You must not damage or
cause the destruction or modification of hardware or software,
removing wires, writing on the mouse pads, computer parts, and placing
objects other than disks in the disk drives.
- Only use a floppy disk if I have to transport assignment work
home to complete on my own computer. Any assignment work or files
that are brought to school on a floppy must be scanned by a
teacher for viruses and approved before they may be used.
- Use a personal data/games CD only after gaining approval from the
supervising teacher.
- Only play games that are approved by the school. I understand
that I am never to play games during lesson time. I may play games
at lunchtime if the supervising teacher has allowed this. I may only
play games that are non-violent, non-sexist and non racist..
