Seven Hills High School discourages students from bringing mobile phones to school as they are not necessary for day to day instruction, can pose a security risk and interfere with video, computer and communications systems.  However it is recognised that some students may need a phone to contact parents after school in order to co-ordinate after school movement or transport home.

Students are therefore permitted to bring mobile phones to school, if their parents request it, for the purpose of parental contact after school hours or for security reasons.

If a parent requests permission for their student to bring a mobile phone to school it must be operated STRICTLY under the following conditions:

1.      A written request must be made to the school and lodged in the student’s file. This request must be renewed annually.

2.      The phone is to be operated ONLY before or after school.

3.      The phone must be switched off at ALL times during school hours unless permission is granted by a teacher to make a call for EMERGENCY or EXTRAORDINARY situations.

4.      The phone must be kept secure at all times. The school accepts no responsibility for damaged or stolen mobile phones.

5.      Mobile phones are NOT permitted in examination rooms under any circumstances.

If a student fails to comply with any of the above then the mobile phone will be confiscated and kept in a secure place until the end of the school day. The student can collect the phone from the front office at the completion of the school day. If a student repeatedly fails to comply with these rules the mobile phone will be confiscated and a parent asked to collect the phone from the school after an appropriate interview has taken place.

Students not complying with the above rules and who fail to submit their phone for confiscation at a teacher’s request will face appropriate disciplinary action which may include suspension until parental interview can be arranged.
